Dorothy G. Maloney, 98, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2019 peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on August 6, 1920, in Mechanicville, New York.

Dorothy moved to King City from Lewiston, New York in 1982 to be close to her family after the passing of her husband, Professor Leo J. Maloney. Prior to moving to King City, Dorothy received a full retirement from Niagara Mohawk Power Company.

Dorothy soon became a special part of King City by working at Whitehurst Grim Funeral Services for over 20 years offering sympathy and helping with arrangements. An active volunteer in King City, Dorothy was a member of the Mee Memorial Hospital Service League, the Mee Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, King City Silver Kings and Queens, Friends of King City Library, Community Food Pantry of King City and attended Grace Lutheran Church.

In 2002 Dorothy was nominated for the coveted Jefferson Award for the thousands of hours spanning over three decades of volunteering at Mee Memorial Hospital Service League working in the gift shop, information desk and delivered flowers to patients. She was named Hospital volunteer of the year countless times.

Since Dorothy never drove a car, she walked everywhere and never met a stranger. She always had a smile for everyone, which is why she was the best ticket seller in the town. Her hobbies included playing bridge with the ladies, enjoying her succulent garden, volunteering, faithfully watching SF Giants games, reading cookbooks, spending time with her family and frequenting antique shows and garage sales. After attending Old Timer’s Day for over 30 years, she was proudly recognized as the oldest person at the 2018 event.

Dorothy’s family is grateful for the care and love of her wonderful caregivers over the past years.

Dorothy is survived by daughters Donna Myers of King City, California and Susan Wegmann of Gainsville, Georgia. She was blessed with 3 beautiful granddaughters, Kim St George (Marty), Jennifer Moon (Ken) and Cara Dismuke (Anthony); and 7 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Riley, Schoen, McKenna, Lauren, Briaana and Brandon. Dorothy is preceded in death by her sister Margaret Nelson and husband Professor Leo J. Maloney.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Eddington Funeral Services Chapel, 429 Bassett St., King City.

A Funeral Service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Grace Lutheran Church, 205 Canal St. in King City with a reception immediately following.

The family would appreciate in lieu of flowers, memorials to be made to Friends of King City Library, Mee Memorial Hospital Foundation or Heartland Hospice Care.
