Suspect arrested in Soledad murder of K.C. couple

SOLEDAD — An arrest has been made in connection with a double homicide that took place in the parking lot of the Soledad Foods Co. store on Sept. 26.

Soledad and Greenfield police departments conducted a probation search in the 400 block of San Diego Place in Soledad at 8:19 a.m. last Wednesday, where officers located a light gold 1996 Volkswagen Jetta that matched the description of the same vehicle used in the Sept. 26 double homicide.

Officers contacted the suspect, 19-year-old Jorge Rodriguez, and conducted a search of his residence before arresting him on suspicion of a violation of parole.

“We were originally just going out on a probation search and were not looking for a murder suspect,” said Soledad Chief of Police Eric Sills. “When we got there, the officers immediately recognized the vehicle. This is because they were the same officers that worked the night of the homicides.”

During follow-up investigation, distinctive markings found on suspect Rodriguez’s Jetta on Nov. 21 were compared to marks seen on video surveillance of the suspect vehicle used in the double homicide. After close examination, it was determined that the markings on the vehicle seen in the video were identical to those found on suspect Rodriguez’s vehicle.

“The damage to the metal on the vehicle is something that can’t be duplicated,” Sills said. “It is like ballistics on a bullet.”
