KING CITY – Last Wednesday’s South Monterey County Joint Union High School District discussed their take on Prop 30 and what it would mean for school funding.
There are two initiatives coming up in the Nov. 6 election, Proposition 30 and 38.
State administrator Dan Moirao said, “Both propositions impact funding on education.”
Prop 30, or the governor's initiative, increases personal income taxes for seven years for earnings above $250,000 annually and increases sales tax and use tax by a quarter of a cent for four years. What this means for the district is temporary tax revenues and more local control of how funds are spent, according to Moirao.
