Ruby E. Matalone, 96, of San Ardo, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Morro Bay, California.
Ruby was born Ruby Elizabeth Douglass in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
She was the youngest of 10 children. Ruby married the first time to Henry Thurlow Hicks in 1936 at the age of 19. They were married for 23 years.
Ruby married Dominic Matalone in 1961. Ruby and "Dom" made their home in San Ardo, CA. until his death in 1984.
They were married 23 years.
Ruby loved gardening and beautiful flowers, she had the prettiest yard in San Ardo.
She loved to sew and made most of her evening gowns she wore to the Christmas and New Years parties she and Dom attended at the Elks Lodge in Salinas before his death. (Ruby's Dom loved the Elks).
Ruby and Dom were world travelers. Ruby continued to travel even after Dom was no longer with her. During her lifetime, she went to China, England, Scotland, Paris, and Italy just to name a few places.
Ruby spent the last 8 years in Bayside Care Center in Morro Bay, CA. where she passed away on October 2, 2013 at the age of 96.
Ruby never had children. She is survived by her niece Betty Rose Cook of North, South Carolina and a grand nephew Wrendell Cook also of North, South Carolina.
Ruby lived a very prosperous and happy 96 years.
Service will take place on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m at Whitehurst-Grim Funeral Service 429 Bassett St. King City.
Graveside will follow at San Ardo District Cemetery.
