Eugene “Gene” Patrick Barba, 49, of Soledad, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, after a life-long struggle with Type I Diabetes and ultimately renal failure.
Gene was born July 24, 1963, in Salinas to Jesse and Magdalena Barba. He was their 11th child. He attended Gonzales High School and Santa Clara Community College, where he learned computer fabrication and welding. His children were his greatest creations and accomplishment in life.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Cecilia Barba; his four children, Desiree Barba of Soledad, Vanessa and husband Angel and their daughter, his only grandchild, Alexia Sierra; Cassandra and husband Sean Blakeman of Ramstein, Germany; and his only son, Gabriel Barba of Soledad. He is also survived by his father, Jesse Barba of Soledad; and 11 living brothers and sisters and countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Magdalena Barba; and his brother, Jesse Barba Jr.
The family will be celebrating Gene’s life Saturday, July 6, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Liberty Chapel, 274 Kidder St., Soledad, CA 93960. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations to assist with expenses related to his illness and death. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
