Javier Sanchez, Jr., 28, of Greenfield passed away serving his country, Sunday, June 23, 2013, in Sar Rowzah, Afghanistan.
Javier was born August 7, 1984, in Salinas and had been a lifelong resident of Monterey County. He graduated from Ventana Continuation High School in Greenfield in 2003, and attended classes at Hartnell College in Salinas. He served seven years and two tours in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the HHC Special Troops Battalion 2nd Brigade Combat Team 10th Mountain Division, based out of Fort Drum, New York. His passion was his family and friends; he greatly enjoyed the time spent with all whom he knew.
He is survived by his wife, Cassandra Sanchez of Vista, Calif.; parents, Javier and Margarita Sanchez of Greenfield; brother, Fidel Sanchez of Greenfield; sister, Christina Sanchez of Greenfield; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many other loving relatives.

Visitation was to be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Greenfield, with a Rosary immediately following. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Greenfield. Following funeral services, military honors will be conducted at the Greenfield Holy Trinity Cemetery, and then followed with cremation.
