New plan for Pinnacles in the works

Posted: Wednesday, Jan 2nd, 2013

Aaron Crutchfield/South County Newspapers - Pinnacles National Monument Superintendent Karen Beppler-Dorn addresses the King City rotary Club on Dec. 12 regarding the monument’s new draft general plan.

KING CITY — A new draft general management plan is up for public comment for Pinnacles National Monument, which seeks to update the park’s plan for the first time since 1976.

Monument superintendent Karen Beppler-Dorn went over the plan at the Dec. 12 King City Rotary meeting.

“A general management plan for a national park is a long-term plan, for 15 to 20 years,” Beppler-Dorn said. “Our last master plan was completed in 1976, so as you can see, we’re way over time for having a new general management plan for the park. In the time since our last plan was completed, the monument increased in size from 16,000 acres to 27,000 acres.”
