Lena passed away after a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family. She never lost her sweet and gentle nature or her beautiful smile. She was born to Pierina and Alfredo Luchessa, who immigrated to California from Cugnasco, Switzerland. Raised on a dairy farm in Soledad, she graduated from Gonzales High in 1943. Lena met Everett Borzini at a dance in Arroyo Seco, they married in 1945 and lived in Soledad, eventually moving to Greenfield in 1954, where Lena lived the rest of her life.
Lena had two children, Ronald and June. She loved her grandchildren, Adam and Ashley, and spent many wonderful times teaching them about the “good old days.” She loved gardening, the San Francisco Giants, gambling in Tahoe, playing cards and bingo, and was an amazing cook.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, and brother, Herman Luchessa. She is survived by children, Ron (Portland, Ore.), June Serrano (Monterey); grandchildren, Adam (Heather) Serrano (Monterey), Ashley (Giuseppe) Errico (Mountain View); sisters, Elsie Alciati, Mary Borzini, Jane McClean, and brother James Luchessa; and numerous nieces and nephews; and her dog Oreo. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to her longtime caregiver, Tina, for showing love, kindness and compassion during Mom’s lengthy illness.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 24 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church, 235 Main St., Soledad. A celebration of her life will follow in the parish hall immediately following the Mass.
