Rose Homen

Rose Giacomazzi Homen passed away peacefully on January 23, 2013, in Walnut Creek at the age of 96, after a long battle with Alzheimerís disease. Rose was born in Mogheno, Switzerland, to Silverio and Adele Giacomazzi and came to America with her family when she was 3 years old, settling on her fatherís dairy farm in Greenfield.

She attended Greenfield Elementary School and graduated from King City High School. She worked for a time as a secretary for Maggio Produce before her marriage to Tony Homen, Jr., in 1937, when she became a full-time homemaker and bookkeeper for her husbandís farming operations on the Salinas Land Company. Together they had three children, Larry, Beverly and Richard.

Prior to her illness, Rose was a faithful member of St. Johnís Catholic Church in King City. She volunteered as a pink lady at Mee Memorial Hospital and served as a scout leader. She was an outstanding golfer, having scored a hole-in-one at King City Golf Course. She was a marvelous cook and seamstress and loved to entertain guests at her home.

She was predeceased by her son, Richard, at the age of 12 years; husband, Tony Homen, Jr., in 1986; brother, Richard Giacomazzi; sister, Inez McElroy; brother, Fred Giacomazzi; brother, Leo Giacomazzi; and sister, Alice Barnes.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Homen of King City; daughter, Beverly Nevis of Danville; grandson and wife, Chris and Carrie Nevis of Danville; sister, Madeline Benadom of King City; sister, Elaine Salaberry of Manteca; four great-grandchildren, Max, Lexy, Nick and Peyton Nevis, all of Danville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at St. Johnís Catholic Church, 504 N. Third St., King City. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimerís Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, or to a charity of your choice.
