BOXING CORNER: Morales’ title defense could be in January

Posted: Wednesday, Dec 5th, 2012

SAN ARDO — San Ardo Boxing Club Trainer Rodolfo Tapia announced on Dec. 1 that Pro Boxer Roman Morales is currently active in training camp at 125 pounds and is ready to get down to the super bantamweight level of 122 pounds as soon as required.

Morales now has a pro record of 13 wins and no losses with six of those wins being by TKO. The next anticipated fight card is set for Jan. 11, 2013, at the Chumash Casino & Resort in Santa Ynez. Tapia explained that manager Rick Steve might possibly request an extension of the 90-day title defense rule to allow a title defense at the Chumash on Jan. 11. Morales won his WBC FECARDBOX Super Bantamweight Title on Sept. 21 with a requirement that it must be defended within 90 days. Morales had definite plans to defend in November on the East Coast, but those plans were washed away by Superstorm Sandy. Steve is still looking for a December title defense.
