K.C. harriers win MTAL

SALINAS — Sophomore Edgar Bonilla took first place to lead the King City High School boys cross country team to the Mission Trail Athletic League Championship last Thursday at Toro Park.

The Mustangs had not won a boys title outright since the 2007 championship team that also won the CIF-Central Coast Section title.

King City’s Willie Ordaz and Eduardo Orozco placed fifth and sixth as the Mustangs defeated second-place Pacific Grove 49-51.

“It was about as close as you can get,” said Mustang head coach David Daines. “Every runner’s place was important because the final score was really close. The boys put in good efforts to win the championship. We knew that Pacific Grove would be there with us until the end, and we needed to have a strong finish.” ...
