PACIFIC GROVE — With less than seven minutes to play and clinging to a 14-7 lead in a defensive struggle, the King City Mustangs appeared ready seal a win that would place them one victory away from the Central Coast Section playoffs.
Unfortunately for the Mustangs, the Pacific Grove Breakers scored 14 unanswered points to defeat King City and knock the Mustangs out of playoff consideration.
“All you can do is credit P.G. for coming up with big plays,” said King City head coach Mac Villanueva. “I felt we had them locked up defensively, but [the Breakers] converted on some passes we didn’t defend very well, and that was the difference in the game. It was 7-6 until our touchdown when we took the lead, and I felt we could hold them at that point. We are a young team with a lot of a lot of juniors and sophomores, so we’ll work to be a better team next year. We have one more game with Gonzales at home this week, and we will be ready for that game.” ...For the complete article see the 11-07-2012 issue.
