South County receivers prepare for upcoming football season

Posted: Wednesday, Jul 25th, 2012

SOUTH COUNTY - There seems to be an abundant of talent at the receiver position in South County for the 2012-2013 football season, and all of the players could not be mentioned in this article.

SOLEDAD AZTECS:

Jose Maria Martinez - 5' 9" 170 runs a 4.7 (40 time). Has all the physical qualities although he's not tall, great blocker down field, good speed, good hands, and precise route runner. Big play capabilities any time he touches the ball. Only a junior, his upside is endless and so is his hustle. Very motivated player who loves the game and it shows.

Rafa Sancen - 6' 1" 175 lbs. runs a 4.85 (40 time). Team captain, returning starter for the varsity team. Comes to work every day, good football instincts, great hands and a good route runner who knows how to get open. A big target who will go up and get the ball. A player to watch in the 2012-2013 season.

KING CITY MUSTANGS:

DeAndre Sharif - 5'10" 150lbs, 4.6 (40 time). Returning starter from last year. 20 receptions for 306 yards and 8 receiving TD's. He can hurt a defense in a number of ways from stretching the field to getting the ball in space and making a play. He runs precise routes and has a good grasp on the offense. "He is the type of young man that sets a good example for everyone in the program to follow," said coach Mac Villanueva.

Buddy Sans - 6'0" 175lbs, 4.6 (40 time). Returning starter and team captain from last year. 8 receptions for 133 yards and 3 receiving TD's. Also had 27 rush attempts for 171 yards and 1 rushing TD. Buddy is a versatile athlete, he will see time at both receiver and running back. He has the best hands on the team and while he may not be the best route runner on the roster, he does great job of getting open and adjusting his routes according to the defense. "Not a vocal leader but he leads by example with his good work ethic," added Villanueva.

GREENFIELD BRUINS:

Rudy Amezcua - 5' 11" 160lbs. 4.7 (40 time). Very athletic with speed, great hands and a knack for getting open. Prides himself on making the big catch in traffic, and is a very confident young man on the football field. A precise route runner with game breaking abilities. Only a Junior, his upside is off the charts. Although he is on a predominantly running team, his presence on the field is one not to be over looked as he has all the tools to be one of the very best in the South County and MTAL.

Nathan Torres - 5' 8" 150lbs. 4.7 (40 time). Returning varsity player, short in stature but plays big on the field. He is coming off a hand injury but should be 100% before the season begins. He understands the offense and his role. Can be dangerous on play action passes with good speed and nice hands.
