KING CITY - Kids are flocking to the King City recreation center day camp this summer.
For a nominal daily fee, a child can stay from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and that includes swimming in the pool facilities after lunch. The day camp also features sports games, art projects, reading, cooking, wally ball, and board games to name a few.
"We have 30 to 40 kids per day, and I really enjoy working with the kids," said recreation leader Lucy Flores of King City.
At the summer day camp the kids really have a wide variety of things to do and can make lots of new friends.
"I want it to be a really fun summer time environment," added Flores.
A kid favorite is Pizza Wednesday where for an increased fee, the kids get two slices of pizza and a drink.
After lunch time the kids get ready and spend the rest of the afternoon swimming and playing in the pool, where they can also jump and dive off of a low board or the high board.
"I like the child psychology part of it," said Daisy Gurley, 18, of King City. "Kids play and adapt to new kids easily and everyone has a great time."
The facilities are located at 401 Division Street in King City and is next to a large park and baseball fields. The pool facility is said to be one of the best in the South County area. Day Camp is an eight-week program offered for youth 6-13 years of age. It is a drop-in program, so kids can come whenever they like by just paying the daily fee.
