Preliminary election results for city council are in

Posted: Thursday, Nov 15th, 2012

KING CITY As of last Friday, the Monterey County Elections department reports that 2,683 votes are in with Robert Cullen, Belinda T. Hendrickson and Karen Jernigan each nabbing a seat on the City of King city council.

These results are subject to change as more ballots are counted, and the next updated report is due out Nov. 16.

As of Friday, the snapshot of the results place Hendrickson at the forefront with 739 votes, 27 percent of results as a whole, and Cullen in second with 531 votes and 19.79 percent.

Forty-four votes split Karen Jernigan at 444 votes and 16.44 percent of the whole, from Margarita Lopez, with 400 votes and 14.91 percent of the votes. Coming in after that is former Greenfield police chief Joe Grebmeier at 394 votes and 14.69 percent of the votes.

Joe A. Gonzales was still placed on the ballot, but did not run a campaign. Gonzales endorsed Hendrickson as his candidate of choice.

With the votes for third coveted council seat being so close in number of votes, the certified results will be anxiously awaited. The elections department has 28 days after an election to certify the results and make them official.
