Mel's Run has successful sixth year
Posted: Wednesday, Jul 28th, 2010

Bikes and classic cars hit the road once again for the Six Annual Mel's Run this past Saturday.

A total of 270 riders went out on the run, said Cody Bassetti, one of the extended Bassetti family organizing and running the event. He said the number of riders was about 55 higher than last year. The run was put together in memory of the late Mel Bassetti, who passed away from cancer in 2004.

Additionally, the lunch turnout was high. "We had maybe 430 people at the height of it, said Bassetti. "Everybody got meals. We did really well as far as attendance goes."

After all the money was tallied, Bassetti said $26,000 was raised by the event, but after expenses for the event are tallied, he estimated the total cleared will be $21,000.

"To be honest, we did a lot better than I had expected to do," said Bassetti. "Between the economy the way it is and rodeo being the same weekend, we did really well."

Besides the extended Bassetti family that helped put together the event, Cody Bassetti said he would like to thank others for their hard work. "I'd like to thank the King City Young Farmers for doing a great job with the food. Thanks also to Nessen Schmidt for donating firewood for the pit and barbecue."

The Schmidts, Nessen Jr. and Sr., were the two who donated a buck hunt item for the raffle, which Bassetti said was one of the big sellers, selling about $1,900 in raffle tickets.
