UPDATE: Arrest made after Monday shooting

Aaron Crutchfield/South County Newspapers - KCPD officers respond to a shooting in the alleyway between Vanderhurst Avenue and Third Street Monday evening.

UPDATE, 6:41 A.M. TUESDAY Adrian Alvarez, 18, of Greenfield was arrested after investigative efforts by King City and Greenfield Police Department officers. Alvarez was booked into Monterey County Jail on charges of two counts of attempted murder, participation in a criminal street gang, criminal conspiracy and weapon violations. The motive for the shooting is gang-related, as Alvarez is affiliated with a gang, police said.


KING CITY King City Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting shortly before 6 p.m. Monday.

Acting Chief Bruce Miller said two Hispanic males were shot in an open garage off of the alleyway in the rear of the 400 block of North Vanderhurst Avenue. Both victims were transported to Mee Memorial Hospital. One victim, age 24, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, while the other victim, 28, suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso. The more critical was transported via helicopter to a trauma center.

The suspect vehicle was described as a dark green Honda, which was last seen driving toward Santa Lucia School after the shooting. The vehicle was later found unoccupied in Greenfield.

Miller said the shooting victims do not have gang ties.
