KING CITY — A gang-related drive-by shooting Thursday night left one man dead, while a second victim was shot twice but escaped injury.
King City Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of San Antonio Drive and Willow Street at 7:46 p.m. Jan. 10. Officers found Armando Daniel Ortiz, 18, lying in a nearby field. He had sustained a single gunshot wound to the upper torso. Ortiz died en route to the hospital despite paramedics’ efforts to stabilize him.
According to a release from the KCPD, the other victim, Jose Manuel Calderon Alverado, 32, had a round go through each of the two sleeves of his coat, but he was not injured in the shooting.
The suspect vehicle, according to the release, was described as a white Volkswagen Jetta with tinted windows and chrome aftermarket wheels. The occupants were described as Hispanic males in their late teens or early 20s. The vehicle was last seen headed east on Willow.
Police said evidence gathered confirms the shooting was gang-related.
The KCPD is actively pursuing this investigation, and asks that the community come forward with information that will help police solve this, the first homicide of 2013 in South County.
