During last Tuesday's city council meeting, Police Chief Nick Baldiviez named Officer Jerry Hunter Jr. as King City's officer of the year.

"Jerry was instrumental in forming the canine unit," Baldiviez announced to the gathered audience at the meeting. He went on to note about Hunter that he has been working with Sgt. Mark Baker on forming a SWAT team, and through the past year, had 35 misdemeanor arrests and 43 felony arrests.

"He made all three arrests and got confessions in the high school shooting," Baldiviez added, citing the December shooting at the girls soccer game. "He's put himself through POST classes," Baldiviez went on to praise.

Also awarded was Sgt. Bobby Carrillo as supervisor of the year, earning the award for the second year in a row.

The outstanding achievement award was given to Officer Joey Perez.

Recognized for perfect attendance were Officers Jaime Andrade and Mario Mottu Jr., as well as Capt. Bruce Miller.
